This talisman is one of seven rainbow planetary alchemy butterflies. The series is titled “Imago”.

My mother and grandmother taught me to needlepoint when I was a child. I was overcome with inspiration while viewing a beading and embroidery exhibit in Denver this winter and I decided to unearth the roots of my early years and paint a series of butterflies with thread. “Imago” is latin for image, or imaginal stage; the last stage an insect attains during its metamorphosis. The “imago” or the winged final stage indicates that everything before was practice or a mask for the revealed true form. Over the last ten years my art work has woven themes of planetary alchemy into the imagery. “Imago” is the newest iteration. Each planet is associated with a color, sephiroth from the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, and the sigils of each planet (from the book Metamorphosis Planetarium, 17th century) are embroidered above each butterfly.
