This painting was inspired by the ancient forests of Olympic National Park. The elaborate mosses, ferns and sky forest canopy absorb 129 inches of rain per year. The Hoh forest has never been cut and with trees over 1,000 years old its 24 square miles of perfectly balanced, intact, gorgeous Agarikon-inhabited rainforests are a rarity on this planet. During heavy rainfall the mosses, draping luxuriously over ancient maple trees, sparkle with a million water droplets emitting radiant saturated color. The spider guardian casts her geometric net over this elaborate mountain range and every movement, from elk bugle to cadmium Skunk Cabbage bloom is recorded in her web. During early spring the light catches her just so and she can be seen casting a silk thread over the milky glacier silt river flowing from Mt Olympus, flying in search of the perfect place to establish her next silk palace.
